Dothan Radio Personality Killed in Plane Crash
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - An Alabama radio personality was one of two people who died Thursday in a small plane crash in rural Jackson County, Florida, near the Alabama state line.

Major John Dennis with the sheriff's office said the pilot was killed on impact. A seven-year-old boy on the plane was airlifted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. There were no other injuries. The names of the victims have not been released.

But Greg Kamishlian, general manager at WTVY-FM in Dothan, said the pilot killed in the crash was 44-year-old Russ Ragan, who with his father had hosted a long-running radio agriculture show in Dothan.

Kamishlian said Ragan grew up with the early morning agriculture show on WTVY-FM that his father, Gene Ragan, started 53 years ago, delivering farm reports and information on soil conditions, pricing and other news.

The station had a memorial set up on its website Thursday and planned to do a remembrance show Friday.

Dennis said the crash occurred about 11:17 a.m. Thursday.

One witness told authorities the plane made a sputtering noise and then nose-dived into a dried up fish pond.

Campbellton is about 20 miles south of the Alabama-Florida line.
