Thompson Raises Funds in Alabama
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Potential presidential candidate Fred Thompson drew some of the state's top Republicans to his first Alabama fundraiser.

Among those attending the private fundraiser Monday night in Mountain Brook was state Attorney General Troy King, who's serving as John McCain's state campaign chairman. King says he went as an invited guest simply to welcome the Alabama native back to the state where he was born. King says he's sticking with McCain.

Others in attendance included Secretary of State Beth Chapman, state Senate Minority Leader Jabo Waggoner, and state Representative Jay Love.

Chapman says she also went as a nonpaying invited guest. She's not getting involved in any presidential campaign because of her role in overseeing the state's presidential primary on February fifth. But she says Thompson was very down to earth and the 150 people in attendance appeared to enjoy meeting him.

Love was among the people who paid one thousand dollars per couple to attend. Love says he plans to support Thompson if he enters the presidential race.
