Environment Chief Attends Game on Power Company's Dime
(2007-07-17)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The head of Alabama's environmental agency enjoyed a little baseball over the weekend from the private stadium box of one of the companies his office regulates.

Trey Glenn is director of the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. He took in a Montgomery Biscuits baseball game on Sunday. The Birmingham News reports he was sitting with his family in the private box of Alabama Power, which the agency regulates on environmental issues.

Glenn says there was nothing wrong with him using the seats. He says he actually went at the suggestion of his mother, who was invited by the utility because she is the mayor of Wetumpka.

Alabama Power spokeswoman Carrie Kurlander says the company believes it's both legal and ethical to invite public officials on such outings. She says it's a way to keep communication open and friendly.

Glenn already is the target of a state ethics investigation. The agency is considering whether he improperly accepted trips funded by a private company.
