Artillery Shell Project Continues
Workers at the Anniston Chemical Weapons incinerator reported the destruction of another 224 V-X filled artillery rounds last week. The process also involved the burning of 341 gallons of liquid V-X nerve gas inside the 155 millimeter projectiles.
To date, the Army said its incinerated nearly 3-thousand of the artillery rounds and almost 2-thousand gallons of liquid V-X. Officials said that's roughly 1 percent of the artillery munitions stored at the Depot.
The latest phase of chemical weapons destruction follows other projects that saw more than 35-thousand V-X rockets destroyed and more than 140-thousand G-B munitions burned.
