Delphi Reaches Agreement With UAW
(2007-06-23)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Delphi, the struggling auto parts maker, has reached a tentative wage-cutting agreement with its largest union.

Union officials speaking on condition of anonymity earlier this week said the deal would cut wages for longtime United Auto Workers members from around 27 dollars an hour to between 14 and 18 and a-half dollars an hour.

The deal, which still must be voted on by rank-and-file members, would end the threat of a strike that could have shut down production at General Motors, Delphi's largest customer.

Industry analysts say it may set the pattern for future pay in the U-S automotive parts industry.

Delphi has plants in Athens, Cottondale and Gadsden.
