Huntsville Residents Asked to Conserve Water
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Huntsville Utilities is asking its customers to take voluntary measures to conserve water because of the severe drought.

Spokesman Bill Yell said officials are concerned about equipment failures because the drought has forced the system to pump water at 80 percent capacity.

Yell said Huntsville sell water to other municipalities that depend on wells, and it needs to save some capacity to help those systems as the drought continues.

Madison County recently implemented an odd-even water use to conserve water. Yell suggests many customers can curb usage if they reduce the watering of lawns to only a few times a week.

He also said the utility drawns most of its water from the Tennessee River and supply remains plentiful.
