Folsom Says Senate Shouldn't Tolerate Violence
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Lieutenant Governor Jim Folsom Junior says the state Senate can't tolerate one member striking another and it must take action.

Folsom, who presides over the state Senate, issued a statement Thursday -- one week after Republican Senator Charles Bishop struck Democratic Senator Lowell Barron.

Folsom's statement did not say specifically what should be done about the incident, but he said a child who hit someone in school would be suspended or expelled.

Folsom's attorney, Jim Ward of Birmingham, says Folsom is ignoring strong words that were said to Bishop before the incident.

Folsom says regardless of what might have been said between the senators, words aren't an excuse for hitting someone.
