Giuliani Defends Donation to Pro-Choice Group
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani on Wednesday denied there was anything inconsistent about him donating money to an organization that performs abortions and saying he personally opposes the procedure.

Responding to reports that he and his wife at the time gave 900-dollars to Planned Parenthood in the 1990s, the former New York mayor said giving to the organization "squares with my support of the right of choice."

On a campaign and fund-raising swing through Alabama, Giuliani said at a news conference that Planned Parenthood workers provide information both about abortion and about adoption.

The Planned Parenthood Federation of America said abortions are performed in about 265 of the group's 860 women's centers nationwide. Other centers perform counseling and provide health care services aside from abortion.

Giuliani's remarks came during a day in Alabama that included three fund-raisers and appearances in Tuscaloosa, Huntsville and Birmingham.
