Lyman Ward on Verge of Closing
(2007-05-03)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - One of Alabama's oldest schools is having financial problems and there's a possibility it could be closed in the near future.

A letter circulated to faculty members and employees at Lyman Ward Military Academy said the school could be shuttered as early as May 31st. Doctor Chester Carroll, school president, said nothing is official yet and he expects the academy's board of trustees to make a final decision when they meet May 19th.

Lyman Ward's student population has dwindled from 250 to about 70 male cadets.

The academy, located in Camp Hill (Tallapoosa County), has existed for more than one-hundred years.
