Riley's Double Dipping Bill Appears Dead
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Governor Riley's bill to ban double dipping by legislators got an extremely chilly review during a public hearing by a state Senate committee Wednesday.

After the hearing by the Senate Fiscal Responsibility Committee, the bill's sponsor, Senator Scott Beason, said "It's dead."

The committee spent 90 minutes listening to mostly negative comments about the bill and will vote on it in one or two weeks.

Committee member Myron Penn said the bill got its five minutes of fame with the public hearing and now it's time for the bill to disappear.

But Riley isn't giving up. He's also trying to get the State Board of Education to enact a policy against double dipping.
