House Leader Quits Shelton State Job
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - House Majority Leader Ken Guin has resigned from a position at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa that paid him $49-thousand-677 a year.

Democrat Guin of Carbon Hill said Tuesday that he's sent a letter of resignation to Shelton State officials.

But he said he doesn't plan to quit a similar position with Bevill State Community College in Sumiton, which pays him $48-thousand-721 a year.

State school board members told The Birmingham News they received the notice of Guin's resignation from Shelton State officials late Monday afternoon.

Word of Guin's resignation came as Governor Bob Riley was discussing a proposal with board members to prohibit legislators from working for two-year colleges.

Riley's proposal, which would require approval from a majority of the nine-person board, is scheduled to be discussed during Thursday's board meeting.
