VP Cheney Visits Birmingham - Update
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Vice President Dick Cheney lashed out at Democrats in the House and Senate Monday, accusing them of undercutting U-S troops by trying to impose limits on the military in Iraq.

Cheney made the remarks at a fundraising luncheon in Birmingham that is expected to raise nearly 500-thousand dollars for fellow Republican Jeff Sessions of Mobile.

The V.P. criticized an emergency war spending bill passed by the House that would require the withdrawal of U-S troops by September 1st, 2008. The nonbinding measure was approved last week.

Cheney said President Bush will veto either the House of Senate legislation and he said there are enough votes to sustain the veto.

Organizers said nearly 500 people were expected, but many seats were empty.

According to campaign finance reports - Senator Sessions spent five-point-four (m) million dollars on his 2002 campaign and had approximately one-point-four (m) million dollars in the bank at the end of 2006. The next reports are due April 15th.
