State Superintendent Says Portables Always Needed
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - State Superintendent of Education Joe Morton reported to the Legislature yesterday (Wednesday) that Alabama schools are using more than 13-hundred portable classrooms for student instruction. There are 600 more portable classrooms that are either empty or used for non-instructional purposes.

Morton says the education bond issue being considered by the Legislature could remove many of the classrooms. But he says some rapidly growing school systems, such as Shelby County, will always need portable classrooms.

The Legislature is looking at a bond issue of at least 850 (M) million dollars for school and college construction projects across the state.
