Chief Justice Cobb Rescinds Appointment
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Retired Circuit Judge Bobby Aderholt of Haleyville, the father of Congressman Robert Aderholt, has had his appointment as a special judge rescinded by Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb.

Bobby Aderholt said he has not talked to Cobb, but he received a letter from her yesterday (Monday), saying there was -- quote -- ``no need for a special judge.''

Aderholt, who is 71, had been a circuit judge for 30 years before retiring January 15th. Cobb's predecessor, Drayton Nabers, appointed Aderholt as a special circuit judge for one year to serve Winston and Marion counties. Aderholt said he has been busy handling everything from traffic cases to a capital murder case.

Cobb signed orders Friday rescinding Aderholt's appointment. When contacted yesterday, Cobb said through an aide that it would not be appropriate to comment.

Aderholt said he believes someone in Haleyville complained to the chief justice about the judicial assistant and that led to the end of his appointment.
