Special Session Opens Monday
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The Alabama Legislature meets in special session today (Monday).

Gov. Bob Riley summoned the lawmakers into special session to give him $400 million in borrowing power to offer incentives to industrial prospects, including German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp A-G.

The steelmaker is considering a site in north Mobile County for a steel plant. Louisiana is also being considered.

The nearly $3 (b) billion plant, employing two-thousand 700 workers, would be the largest private industrial project ever in Alabama.

A decision on the plant site is expected by May. Riley hopes the Legislature will wrap up its special session in close to five days -- the minimum time needed to pass his legislation -- and then be ready for its regular session starting March Sixth.
