Huntsville's Fire Chief Resigns
(2007-01-19)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Huntsville's top firefighter has resigned after only eighteen months on the job. According to an article in a Huntsville newspaper, Fire Chief Dusty Underwood stepped down after repeated conflicts with the head of the city's firefighters' union. Underwood submitted the resignation late yesterday following a closed door meeting with union President Marc Thrailkill. Thrailkill reportedly accused Underwood of lying about a promise to push a pay reclassification plan for firefighters. Mayor Loretta Spencer credits Underwood for improving the city's fire, rescue and E-M-T services. She said his last day on the job is February 9th.
