Severe Weather Moves Through Alabama

(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Unseasonably warm weather spawned severe thunderstorms across Alabama Friday morning. National Weather Service meteorologists say the powerful cold front moved in from Mississippi prompting dozens of tornado and severe thunderstorm watches and watches. The severe weather is blamed for early morning storm damage in Lamar and Marion counties. According to local storm reports from the N-W-S, a possible tornado touched down in Vernon at approximately 3:25 this morning. Several businesses, located south of Highway 18, were damaged. There are no reports of injuries. Forecasters say some storms contain intense lightning, hail, heavy rain and possible tornado activity. Residents are urged to stay abreast of rapidly changing weather conditions through your favorite media source.
