Progressive Farmer Magazine Sold

(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The Birmingham-based Progressive Farmer magazine, which is has been published for 120 years, has been sold to a Nebraska company by Time Inc. Omaha-based D-T-N Corporation announced yesterday it had acquired Progressive Farmer, which has a circulation of about 600-thousand. It will continue to base the publication and its staff in Birmingham. A purchase price was not disclosed. D-T-N supplies up-to-the-minute market data on energy, weather and farm commodities. Progressive Farmer began publishing in Birmingham in 1886 and became part of the New York-based Time Inc. in the 1980s when the company bought Birmingham-based Southern Progress Corporation. That company is still based in Birmingham and operates as a division of Time, publishing magazines such as Southern Living and Cottage Living. Time Inc. also publishes Time, Sports Illustrated, People, Fortune and other magazines.
