Leaving Cuba for a New Life LEEDS, AL (APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - You never know who you'll meet on an airplane. Former Alabama Public Radio reporter Gina Smith met a Cuban-American with a unique story during her return home from a trip to Havana last summer. She and her new acquaintance later met up at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds to talk about how one Cuban family fled the island for the U.S. and made a home for themselves here.
