Feds investigate allegations of organized fraud in black farmers settlement program
U.S. Attorney Bud Cummins
(UALR Public Radio) - U.S. Attorney Bud Cummins says federal investigators are looking into allegations that arose out of a case in Florida - that black farmers groups in Arkansas trained others to make fraudulent claims on the settlement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Cummins also says the Justice Department has been investigating individual claims, but have not been able to build solid cases, because the settlement structure was loosely written, requiring not proof for claimants to collect up to $50,000.
