Hackers Claim Attack On Ala. Government Websites
(2012-02-10)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Computer hackers claiming to be from the loose-knit group known as Anonymous say they have broken into several Alabama law enforcement and government websites.

In an online news release Friday, the group says it stole the personal information of more than 46,000 Alabama citizens. They say the information includes Social Security numbers, license plate numbers, criminal records and phone numbers.

The group says the attack was prompted by Alabama's tough law targeting illegal immigrants.

The group says it will not use the personal information to do damage.

Mobile city spokeswoman Barbara Drummond says the city was warned of attacks Thursday night and shut down its computers. She says hackers did take information from another website, but that information was public record.

Officials from other cities say their websites have not been hacked.
