Catholic Charities is getting $15 million of that for a consortium of 16 nonprofit groups involved in mental health care and career counseling. It also will set up a pilot program across the Gulf Coast to help people return to work in fishing or find new careers.
The Audubon Nature Institute will get $2 million of the grants announced Wednesday. The rest will support a conference of disaster-related nonprofits in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi, and a community college program to help workers affected by the spill find new careers.
