Scrushy Set to Testify in Birmingham Civil Trial
(2009-05-11)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - A trial getting under way in Birmingham should provide the first public testimony by fired HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy about the fraud that nearly sunk the company he founded.

A Jefferson County judge is set to start hearing testimony Monday in an investor lawsuit filed over the HealthSouth fraud.

Court documents show Scrushy was brought in to testify from Texas, where he has served about two years of a seven-year sentence for his role in a state bribery scheme.

Scrushy didn't take the stand in that case, or in the criminal trial that resulted in his acquittal in the HealthSouth fraud in 2005.

It's unclear when Scrushy will testify in the lawsuit, which seeks an unspecified amount of money from Scrushy for the fraud.
