Ala. AG Unhappy With Supreme Court's Child Rape Ruling
(2008-06-25)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Alabama Attorney General Troy King says the public should be outraged by the U.S. Supreme Court ruling outlawing the execution of people convicted of raping a child.

King had filed a brief supporting Louisiana's death penalty law for child rapists. The court ruled 5-4 Wednesday that the law violates the Constitution's ban on cruel and unusual punishment.

King called the ruling ``wrong headed.''

He has been trying to get the Alabama Legislature to pass a law providing for the execution of people twice convicted of raping a child. But King says there is no need to keep pushing the legislation with the current makeup of the Supreme Court.
