PETS
June 13, 2009 More cats and kittens are surrendered to animal shelters in June than during any other month of the year.
For that reason, June has been designated as Adopt-a-Cat Month.
If you're thinking about adding a cat to your household, take this quiz from the American Humane Association to determine whether you might be the perfect cat owner.
For example, does caring for a pet for 15 years or more not seem like a life sentence to you?
Do you look forward to having your ankles rubbed by an affectionate, hairy animal?
Perhaps you don't mind sharing your home with a pet who sheds, tracks kitty litter, and throws up hairballs - or one who will clean itself but never clean up after itself.
Maybe you think a great way to spend your extra money would be on pet food, toys, veterinary care, kitty litter...and more kitty litter.
On the brighter side, would you love a housemate who will randomly and regularly entertain you with outrageous and silly antics (at the cat's whim, of course)?
Do you want someone to take care of every day?
You may want to be welcomed with a soft purr of appreciation, and have your lap warmed whenever you sit down.
Do you believe that spaying and neutering pets will help solve the pet overpopulation problem?
You may be one who can't imagine leaving your devoted pet behind when you move - and always keep an ID tag on your pet or have it microchipped, so it can get back to you no matter what.
Are you convinced that keeping your cat indoors is best for your pet's well-being?
And finally, would you enjoy unconditional love and constant companionship?
If you answered "yes" to many of these questions, then you have the makings of a perfect cat owner.
Now all you have to do is find the perfect cat or kitten for you.
