First United Methodist Church
66 Main Street

Advance tickets are now available for The Catskill Choral Society's annual holiday concert, Sounds of the Season on Saturday, Dec. 4. The performance will be presented at 7:30 p.m., in First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Oneonta.
The program, under the baton of Timothy Newton, will feature John Rutter's magnificent Gloria. The chorus will be accompanied by Timothy Horne, organist, and a professional brass and percussion ensemble drawn from the greater central New York region.
In addition, the Society will perform a little known carol, American composer Amy Beach's Peace on Earth, discovered only recently in the Library of Congress music collection. Beach was one of New England's great 19th century composers whose music reflects the romantic strains of Johannes Brahms and Richard Strauss.
Also on the program will be holiday favorites such as Caroling, Caroling by Hutson/Burt; Variations on Deck the Hall arranged by O'Connell; A Musicological Journey through the Twelve Days of Christmas by Courtney; and a medley of Irving Berlin's most popular Christmas songs.
The CCS Girl Choir, under the direction of Laura Hamwey, and the Catskill Chamber Singers will also perform seasonal choral pieces.
Tickets are $12 prior to the concert and are available at Artware and Green Earth, Oneonta; Auger's Bookstore, Cooperstown; Corky's Wines & Spirits, Sidney; and Country Computers and Publishing, Unadilla; as well as from CCS members. There is no admission charge for children in grades pre-K through 8. Tickets at the door are $15.
