Perhaps best known for her arrangements with Robert Shaw of folksongs, hymns and spirituals, Alice Parker has made her life's work in choral and vocal music. Folk Song Inspirations
Directed by Anne Boyer Cotten
and Guest Director Alice Parker

Featured Guests: the Parlor City Boys' Chorus
directed by Ghislaine Stewart

Since founding the Madrigal Choir 32 years ago, Anne Cotten has often drawn inspiration from the world of folk songs: a simple tune shared around a campfire, a melody passed down through generations, a story told through song. Many composers have been inspired by this genre. You will hear settings by Aaron Copland, Chen Yi, Moses Hogan, and Steven Samitz. Alice Parker will direct a segment of some of her favorite arrangements.
