The play revolves around a son who went away to war as a pampered boy and has come back as a man of his own. The varying effects of this change, on his mother and father are devastating. They want to love each other, to relive the good old times and build some new ones together, but each finds it impossible to communicate with either of the others. They have grown apart and can no longer reconcile the dream and the reality.
