Governor Denies Knowledge of Contributions From Ata
Ali Ata pleaded guilty earlier this year to lying to a federal agent and evading federal income taxes. He then testified for the government against the governor's former political fundraiser Tony Rezko.
Speaking in Chicago today (Monday), Blagojevich said he has done nothing wrong.
Blagojevich points out that any campaign contribution received from Rezko has been donated to various charities.
In court, Ata testified that he gave the governor's campaign $25,000 in exchange for a job. Blagojevich later appointed Ata as head of the Illinois Finance Authority with a yearly salary of $127,000.
The governor denies Ata's testimony. The governor told reporters that he would "check into it." © Copyright 2009, wsiu
