State Investigates Possible Gas Price Gouging SPRINGFIELD, IL (wsiu) - The state of Illinois wants to hear from consumers if they suspect there is price gouging at the gas pump.

Illinois Department of Agriculture Spokesperson Jeff Squibb says they have sent out inspectors to investigate claims of unfair gas prices after Hurricane Ike hit the gulf coast.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office received many complaints about high gas prices over the weekend and she has also warned retailers not to overcharge.

Gas pumps found to be providing too much or too little fuel immediately are taken out of service and cannot be used again, until a registered repair worker fixes them. If the wrong grade of fuel is being sold, the station is fined and the mislabeled product is removed from the market.
