Furloughs for SOS Employees SPRINGFIELD, IL (wsiu) - Employees at the Illinois Secretary of State's office are losing four days of pay because of the budget crisis.
Secretary of State Jesse White announced yesterday (Monday) he is asking 3,900 employees to take four unpaid days off - two this year and two in the first half of 2009.
Spokesman Dave Druker says the furlough days should prevent closing drivers' license offices and other facilities. But some layoffs are still possible.
Governor Rod Blagojevich recently chopped white's spending by $26 million to help close a budget gap of more than $2 billion. © Copyright 2009, wsiu
