SIUC Students Place Second in The Red Bull Flugtag CHICAGO, IL (wsiu) - Five Southern Illinois University Carbondale students took home second place at the Red Bull Flugtag event last weekend in Chicago.
Flugtag - which in German translates to "flying day" - featured twenty nine teams from across the Midwest. The teams built makeshift aircraft and flew them off a pier into lake Michigan.
The team - called new style flyers - consisted of five SIUC students, Led by team captain Scott Marquardt.
Marquardt's says his team was selected to open the show because of the Chicago-based theme focusing on the cubs.
The team finished second after its vessel flew seventy five feet and the winning team one hundred and twenty.
Marquardt says the team hopes to compete again next year.
