Expansion of Oil Refinery Approved
(2008-09-11)
(wsiu) - Authorities have given a two billion dollar expansion of a Conocophillips refinery in the Metro East, a green light.
The Houston based company won approval this week when environmental regulators signed off on a final permit. The whole permit process took more than two years, delaying the expansion.
Conocophillips has said the expansion at its Roxana plant would take several years.
The project is expected to draw at least 15-hundred construction workers from across the nation. It'll also add up to 100 permanent jobs to the 800 now at the refinery.
The upgraded facility will enable the refinery to process Canadian crude oil and produce a wider variety of fuels.
The improvements will boost processing capacity to more than 350-thousand barrels of crude oil a day.
