Governor's Autism Legislation Overridden
Governor Rod Blagojevich is using that catchy name to describe his practice of using his amendatory veto powers to add things to bills the General Assembly sends him.
The House has over-ridden many of them, including a provision that would have required health insurance carriers to cover autism spectrum disorders. The bill the governor was "improving" dealt with marriage counseling.
State Representative Lou Lang says while including autism spectrum disorders in health insurance coverage is a good idea, the methods employed by Blagojevich are unacceptable.
Lang says he'll be glad to answer phone calls and letters from anyone who needs an explanation for the override. He adds the General Assembly should soon be drafting legislation on the governor's ideas anyway.
