House Overrides Governor's Veto of Ethics Bill
(2008-09-10)
(wsiu) - The Illinois House has delivered a sharp rebuke to the governor by overwhelmingly voting to override his veto of an ethics bill.

The override passed 110-0 Wednesday. Now it's up to the Senate to decide whether the measure dies or becomes law.

It would restrict campaign contributions from people doing business with the state. The goal is to fight the perception that companies can't land state contracts unless they cough up political donations.

Governor Rod Blagojevich used his veto power to propose a dramatic rewrite of the bill. He loaded it up with a long list of ethics measures generally seen as impossible to pass in Springfield.
