Study Shows Exercise Slowed Alzheimer's Progression
(2008-09-08)
(wsiu) - A recent study shows exercise may do more than keep your weight down... it may also help slow the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

The data appears in a recent journal of the American Medical Association. It shows adults over 50 who exercised 50 minutes or more three times a week either slowed the progression or lowered their risk of developing Alzheimer's.

Researcher Ron Zec with the SIU School of Medicine says lots of risk factors for Alzheimer's can be held in check with physical activity.

The Australian research followed more than 100 adults over age 50 and doctors say they're already working suggestions like this into their treatment.

Studies show holding off the onset of Alzheimer's by 12 months could cut the number of sufferers by the millions in the coming years.
