More than 100 jobs are coming to Centralia, courtesy of a new factory affiliated with coal-mining corporation Murray Energy.American Equipment and Machine opened Friday in a 460,000-square-foot machine shop where longwall mining equipment will be rebuilt and made for Murray's mines.
A Murray subsidiary, American Coal Company, operates three mines in Saline County. Other Murray units run mines in Ohio, Kentucky and Utah. Combined, the mines produce roughly 28 million tons of coal a year.
The new Centralia business says it has 102 workers but will hire an additional 34 over the next two years as it ramps up to full production and expands its product line.
