(2010-07-07)
(wsiu) - The first gubernatorial debate of the general election season is set for Chicago.

Green Party candidate Rich Whitney and four others have agreed to participate in the event Thursday night at Chicago State University. It's being organized by The Free & Equal Elections Foundation.

The debate is open to all candidates who have already qualified or are trying to qualify for a spot on the November ballot.

Joining Whitney will be Independents Scott Lee Cohen and Williams Walls III, Lex Green of the Libertarian Party and Michael White of the Constitution Party.

Republican nominee Bill Brady and Democratic Governor Pat Quinn have also been invited but have not yet responded.

Only Quinn, Brady and Whitney are guaranteed spots on the November ballot at this time.
