SIUC Prepares for AIDS Awareness Week
Each red flag represents 240 people living with AIDS. It's all part of Aids Awareness week starting November 30th. The Jackson County Health Department is offering three days of free HIV screenings in the Student Center. Student Center graduate coordinator of special events David Schrappe (SHRAH-pee) says the AIDS awareness message is more than going out and getting tested.
One of the main events is the display of eight panels from the AIDS memorial quilt. Calico Country is creating quilted panels with the names of 150 people throughout southern Illinois who have died from AIDS.
The events run from November 30th through December 3rd.
