Illinois State Senator Thwarts an Attempted Robbery
Koehler, who with his wife owns an artisan bakery behind his Peoria home, was painting in the business after hours when - in a rare instance of not locking up at night - a robber got in and demanded money.
Koehler says the $80-$100 he had in his pocket was not enough, though - the man also asked for his phone. Koehler says he's not sure why, but he decided he would rather tackle the man and take away his gun. The man ran off, though there has been an arrest in the case. Koehler says the man bit him and broke his finger.
He says it's particularly disappointing because he is trying to give back to a troubled neighborhood.
It's been a tough week for members of the General Assembly. On Sunday, State Representative Annazette Collins was robbed of her purse at gunpoint in Chicago, outside her mother's home.
