Technology helps saving Gas
(2006-06-15)
(KUT) - High gas prices have most of us looking for ways to make a gallon of gas go farther. Especially drivers of SUV's. Researchers from UT-Austin and members of the Clean Cities coalition have been working with Automaker General Motors on ways to make SUV's more fuel efficient. They held a press conference this week to talk about where technology fits in.
Karl Doeneges is from Clean Fuel USA, a company that manufactures alternative fuel equipment. He says Ethanol has become big business in Texas, and about to get bigger. The state already leads the country in ethanol fueled cars. More than 400,000 vehicles are working on E-eighty-five, a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.
Meantime, Experts say no faster than 60 miles per hour, avoiding traffic congestion and idling time, keeping car loads light - AND keeping tires properly inflated can add up to savings at the pump.
