Meeks Won't Run for Governor
From the beginning, the Southside Chicago Reverend and State Senator James Meeks said his decision would be about education funding.
He wanted plans to change the way the state pays for education, and a promise from incumbent Governor Rod Blagojevich that he'd make the changes happen.
Meeks says after a 4-hour meeting yesterday, he has what he wants.
"I believe that the governor's plan is a good one. I believe that it would work. At this moment, I am not a candidate for governor," Meeks says.
Meeks refuses to reveal any specifics of the proposed education plan.
He says Blagojevich will release details next Tuesday.
When asked if his decision to drop out was final, Meeks said yes, but also says if the governor doesn't keep his word, he reserves the right to change his mind. © Copyright 2012, Chicago Public Radio
