Missourigasprices.com, which tracks the cost of gas around the state, tabbed the average price of a gallon of gas in the state Thursday at $2.47.
That's up 20 cents from March averages, however, that is still 13 cents below the national average and the cheapest in the Midwest.
Ron Leone, the Executive Director of the Missouri Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association, says consumers should remember more than 90 percent of the price of gas is determined before it even reaches their local gas station.
"Ninety-three to 97 percent is comprised of three main factors, again none of which your local has any control over. First, and foremost, is the cost of the crude oil. Secondly, is the cost of refining that crude oil. And, finally is state and federal taxes."
AAA lists Thursday's average gas price in Columbia at $2.43, up from $2.17 last month.
