(wesm) - (AP) A dredging project is expected to begin next week in portions of the Wicomico River.

The Army Corps of Engineers says a hydraulic pipeline will be used to remove sediment from the river in an area downstream from Salisbury extending nearly to Upper Ferry.

The $832,000 project will improve navigability on the river.

Some of the sediment will be pumped upstream to a spot near Sharps Point.

Wicomico County parks and recreation director Gary Mackes says some dredged material could be placed on county land called Pirates Wharf. He says the material is not harmful.
