Gov. Paterson Addresses Civil Rights Progress at DNC Event
(2008-08-29)
(wrvo) - New York Governor David Paterson was greeting warmly by his state delegates at a meeting on Thursday afternoon.

Paterson spoke of his father, Basil Paterson, and his run for New York lieutenant governor nearly forty years ago.

"They told him he was an asset on that ticket. When they got to the general election, they never even mentioned his name in the paid television campaign ads," Paterson said.

He said that was a letdown to African-American voters who had supported his father's candidacy.

Paterson said that while the fight for civil rights in the United States has not always been positive, it's at least been progressive.
