Local School District Partners with Insurance Company to Offer Free Life Insurance
(2009-12-29)
(wrvo) - A local school district is partnering with insurers to offer free life insurance to pay for a child's education in the event of a parent's death.

The program is the result of a partnership between the Rome city school district and Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. Parents can apply for a free, $50,000 life insurance policy beginning January 6.

Cindy St. George with MassMutual says the company offers insurance policies to a variety of school districts.

"Our goal is to give away 20,000 policies, which is a billion dollars of life insurance coverage. To date we've given away over 10,700 policies, but that means we have 9,300 to go," said St. George.

To qualify for the policies, parents must be between the ages of 19-42, be working full or part time and have a total family income between $10,000-$40,000 per year.
