Providence officials say she is familiar with their school district, having served as chief of staff from 2001-2003.
"Susan is a great choice and I am confident that she will be an asset to our schools while serving in this important role," says Providence Mayor Angel Taveras in a written statement announcing the appointment
Providence Superintendent Tom Brady officially steps down on July 15th after three years with the district. Lusi will serve as a temporary replacement while the school board conducts a nation-wide search for a new superintendent.
