The turbine equipment shipped from China will be loaded onto trucks at the port in Providence. Two trucks will then snake their way through Providence to I-295 then up to Massachusetts.
Department of Transportation spokeswoman Heidi Gudmundson says the trucks will be traveling with an entourage.
"We anticipate two loads with the escort vehicles. One load is approximately 140-feet long, another load is approximately 155-feet long," says Gudmundson. "They'll be seeing a caravan of trucks and vehicles traveling along this route."
Gudmundson says the caravan will slow down traffic, but is not expected to stop it. The trip starts at 9:00 pm Friday and is expected to take two hours. Two more loads will make the same trip on Sunday at 9:00 pm and Monday at 9:00 am.
