During the authority's board meeting, transportation director, and bridge authority board member, Michael Lewis said his department is working on a transportation plan that might help cover the costs of bridge maintenance. Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority board chair David Darlington said at that point the board decided to table votes on increasing tolls.
"If somebody else is going to come out with a plan and it's going to be within a couple of weeks," said Darlington. "We don't want to get so head strong that we plow ahead and do what we want to do, we need to listen to it."
Darlington said the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority board will take up the votes to raise the Pell bridge tolls and seek approval from the legislature to restore tolls on the Mt Hope Bridge at its February 8th meeting.
