Traffic signal replacement and synchronization is allotted 45.7 million dollars of the total bond issue, to update about 140 existing traffic signals, and to replace about 120, for a total 260 modernized traffic signals.

The Louisiana Federation of Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers announced Thursday they filed charges on behalf of more than 200 Filipino nationals with the State Attorney General's office and the Louisiana labor agency. The charges are against California-based Universal Placement International.

Vision problems can be difficult to detect in children, especially infants. But, if undiagnosed, eye and vision problems in children can lead to permanent vision impairments and developmental delays. As part of a statewide effort, the nonprofit InfantSEE group is providing eye care screenings for children regardless of a parent's ability to pay. Dr. Chris Wroten, a Denham Springs optometrist and InfantSEE provider, talks about the program with WRKF's Saiward Pharr.

Baton Rouge Mayor President Kip Holden is trying again to get an improvement plan approved in East Baton Rouge parish. He presented his $887 million worth of proposals to the Metro Council Wednesday night. The plan is very similar to one that failed to gain voter approval last year. LSU prof urges awareness of active mosquitoborne diseases

Now for a follow up to last Friday's interview with Kim Knowlton on the emerging danger of Dengue Fever in Louisiana. Dr. Wayne Kramer is an entomologist at Louisiana State University. He says potential or emerging mosquitoborne illnesses often get media attention at the expense of current and documented diseases already in the area.
