Bond Issue Series, Part 7: Baton Rouge Mayor-President Kip Holden All week WRKF has been looking at parts of the Bond Issue before East Baton Rouge parish voters Saturday, November 14th. For the final part in this series, Baton Rouge Mayor President Kip Holden joins WRKF's Saiward Pharr.
Bond Issue Series, Part 6: Baton Rouge Tea Party Interview For the 6th part in this series on the Bond Issue Dwight Hudson joins WRKF's Saiward Pharr. He is the legislative operations officer with the Baton Rouge Tea Party. That organization has campaigned in opposition to the bond issue.
Bond Issue Series, Part 5: Alive! This is the 5th part of WRKF's series examining the Bond Issue proposal before East Baton Rouge Parish voters Saturday, November 14th. $225 million of the $901 million total bond issue would be spent on a riverfront development called Alive. The entertainment and educational venue is easily the most controversial element in the bond issue.
Bond Issue Series, Part 4: Parish Prison Proposal For the fourth part of WRKF's series examining the Bond Issue before East Baton Rouge Parish voters this Saturday, November 14th, a look at the parish prison. 135.3 million dollars of the bond proposal is set aside for building a new prison. It's third largest single project in the bond proposals.
Bond Issue Series, Part 3: Traffic Signal Updates Today we continue our series examining the $901 million bond proposal before East Baton Rouge parish voters Saturday, November 14th. Traffic signal replacement and synchronization is allotted 45.7 million dollars of the total bond issue, to update about 140 existing traffic signals, and to replace about 120, for a total 260 modernized traffic signals.
Bond Issue Series, Part 2: Drainage System Projects This is the second part in a seven part series examining the Bond Proposal before East Baton Rouge Parish voters on Saturday, November 14th. At 178.3 million dollars, drainage system maintenance and upgrade projects are the second largest component of the bond issue. This series continues Monday morning with the traffic signal proposals.

Teacher unions claim Filipino teachers abused by hiring firm The Louisiana Federation of Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers announced Thursday they filed charges on behalf of more than 200 Filipino nationals with the State Attorney General's office and the Louisiana labor agency. The Dufrocq School reopens to a welcoming community Dufrocq Elementary School was built in 1922 on the edge of the Garden District in Baton Rouge. The tan brick building with white accents is well known by the surrounding community. The school has just undergone two years of renovations and expansions. InfantSEE brings mobile child eye care to BR Vision problems can be difficult to detect in children, especially infants. But, if undiagnosed, eye and vision problems in children can lead to permanent vision impairments and developmental delays. As part of a statewide effort, the nonprofit InfantSEE group is providing eye care screenings for children regardless of a parent's ability to pay. Kip Holden on Baton Rouge Improvements Plans Baton Rouge Mayor President Kip Holden is trying again to get an improvement plan approved in East Baton Rouge parish. He presented his $887 million worth of proposals to the Metro Council Wednesday night. The plan is very similar to one that failed to gain voter approval last year.
